The plants of Copiapoa cinerea vary as one moves along the Chilean coast, and among the names at times applied at times to the variants in this area are Copiapoa haseltoniana and Copiapoa cinerea var. gigantea which sometimes forms elongated columnar plants.

Here the plants can be seen close to the sea, where there are spectacular views (even for the non-cactophile!). Bird-droppings have coated some of the rocks in a snow-white deposit.
