Woman with sheep near Cajamarca The descent to Cajamarca
Date: 2001 December 18

Approaching the city of Cajamarca from the West on the main road from the coast, the road ascends to over 3000 metres before descending to the city, itself at 2750 metres.

In the foreground, a woman wearing the typical large-brimmed hat tends her sheep, spinning wool as she goes. In the background, the city of Cajamarca.

The hillside here is one of the habitats of Matucana aureiflora.
